Margaret (Stein) Steinle, 95, formerly of Burlington, peacefully went home to Our Lord on Saturday, December 2, 2017, at the Kahl Home for the Aged in Davenport, IA, where she had been a resident for three years.
Born March 21, 1922, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Herbert and Pearl (Allen) Stein. On June 26, 1948, she married David H. Steinle. He was deceased on August 28, 2007. They were married 59 years.
Mrs. Steinle graduated from Burlington High School and the University of Iowa. She majored in Home Economics and taught for several years at Horace Mann and Oak Street Schools. She was a homemaker.
Margaret was a member of Divine Mercy Parish and served as Altar & Rosary President of St. Paul's Church. She served on the school board at St. Paul's School, was president of the PTA and founded the hot lunch program for the school.
Mrs. Steinle was an avid tennis player, past president of the Burlington Fine Arts Association, a member of TTT, a member of the former Mercy Hospital Board of Directors, and served as a volunteer for many local church and civic events.
Survivors include one son, Rev. David Steinle of Wilton, IA; one daughter, Ann (James) Payne of Davenport; four grandchildren, Mary Beth Payne of Davenport; John (Ingrid) and Robert Payne of Chicago, and Tom Payne of Kansas City; a cousin, Ted Stein of Middletown, CT; two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a twin sister, Mary Riepe.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, December 9, 2017, at 2 PM at Divine Mercy Parish, St. Paul's Catholic Church in Burlington, with the Rev. David Steinle as celebrant and the Very Rev. Marty Goetz as co-celebrant. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the service. A luncheon will be served immediately following at the Burlington Golf Club. Private family burial will take place at Sacred Heart Cemetery following the luncheon.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:15 AM on December 11, 2017, at the Kahl Home for the Aged, 6701 Jersey Ridge Road in Davenport.
