Leroy Francis Pease, 93, of Burlington, died at 4:40 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born July 24, 1915, in Glen Ridge, N.J., he was the son of Don C. and Bessie Leroy Pease. On Jan. 1, 1938, he married Mary Elizabeth Ita in Burlington. She died April 12,2006.
Mr. Pease was a teacher, counselor, coach and administrator in the Burlington School System for 50 years. He was a graduate of Burlington High School, Burlington Junior College and Cornell College with a bachelor of arts in chemistry and a minor in education. He received a master's degree in educaitonal administration from Colorado State College, and he attended the University of Iowa, University of Arizona, Iowa State University, University of Colorado and Western Illinois University. He was a World War II Veteran of the Marine Corps.
He was a member of First United Presbyterina Church, YMCA, Burlington Executives Club, Eagles, Moose and Education Foundation. He was president of Kiwanis from 1955 to 1956, and he received the first Annual Distinguished Citizens Award from the Boy Scouts of America, Mississippi Valley Council and was named to the Burlington Community School District Hall of Honor.
Survivors include one daughter, Susan Lee Koger of Burlington; one grandson, Anthony Koger of Davenport; one granddaughter, Amy E. Von Alexander of Toddville; three great-granddaughters, Kylie Koger of Davenport, Amelia and Abigail Von Alexander of Toddville; nieces; and nephews.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Walter and Don.
Visitation with family will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in Prugh's Chapel.
The funeral for Mr. Pease will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Prugh's Chapel wit the Rev. Leonard Schantz officiating.
Memorials have been established for Burlington Education Foundation and Kiwanis.
