Irene Ann Sheridan, 87, of Burlington, died at 2:53 PM Sunday, January 29, 2017, at Bickford Cottage.
Born May 12, 1929, in Chicago, IL, she was the daughter of Wasili and Anna C. Gwiazda Selewonchick. On March 15, 1952 she married Dean Carroll Sheridan in Joliet, IL.
She attended her first few years of school in Chicago, then went to live with her grandparents in Thorp, WI and helped them on the farm. She finished high school there and later moved to Chicago and worked at Sunbeam Corporation. Irene lived with her Aunt Estelle Berg and met her future husband, Dean in 1951 who was going to TV school in Chicago at the time. They lived in Chicago for two years, then moved to Burlington, IA with Dean having a job with Santa Fe Railroad in Ft. Madison. She worked at Sylvania, Schramms Department Store, and IRC a number of years.
She was a long time member of the Asbury Methodist Church. Her main hobbies were bowling and flower arranging for the church, sewing and making many quilts. She belonged to Questers and the Ruth Circle Group. She enjoyed walking in Crapo Park, feeding the birds, and also the fish in Lake Starker in the summertime. She loved working in the yard and taking care of her flowers and plants.
Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Gail (Gene) Sheridan-Lucht of Ankeny; one son, Gary Sheridan of Sacramento, CA; two grandchildren, Sierra and Dakota Lucht.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM Saturday, February 4, 2017 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.
The memorial service for Mrs. Sheridan will be 2:00 PM Saturday, February 4, 2017, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Pastor Joyce Proctor officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery at a later date. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home following the service.
A memorial has been established for Asbury Methodist Church.
