Doris Jean Stearns, 79, of Burlington, died at 1:36 PM Monday, July 10, 2017, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born December 17, 1937, in Decorah, IA, she was the daughter of Charlie and Myrtle Quandahl Forde. On May 6, 1961, she married Robert Stearns in First Baptist Church in Marysville, KS. He later died.
Doris worked at Shearer's Bakery for 15 years.
She enjoyed crossword puzzles, watching T.V., reading romance novels and the Inquirer, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family. She was very strong and a hardworking mother.
Survivors include three sons, Brian Stearns, Jeff Stearns, John Stearns all of Burlington; one daughter, Sara (Rick) Guinard of Burlington; five grandchildren, Ricky, Travis, and Chad Guinard, Shawn, Michelle and Mary Stearns; 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Charles Forde of Burlington and Robert Forde of Quincy; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory.
The Graveside Committal Service for Mrs. Stearns will be 11:00 am Friday, July 14, 2017, at Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery with Pastor Paul Hermansen officiating.
A memorial has been established.
