Debbie Kay Fritz, 65, of Burlington, died at 12:40 AM, Monday, March 12, 2018, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born July 25, 1952, in Denver, CO, she was the daughter of Mervin A. and Leah Mae Gladman Smith. Debbie married Stephen Fritz, they later divorced.
Debbie provided child care services in her home for 10 years.
She was of Christian faith and was a member of the Harmony Bible Church Burlington Campus. She loved to read the newspaper, gardening, flowers, friendly card games, and her pet dogs. She enjoyed caring for young kids. She was the Executive Secretary to the Vice President of the organization Promise Keepers and was instrumental with the Million Man March of Washington, D.C. She was a church secretary in Hawaii and Arizona.
Survivors include her father, Mervin (Barbara) Smith of West Burlington; one daughter, Jill (Kevin) Dunlop of WI; one grandson, Sam Martin of Burlington; five sisters, Colleen Smith, Susan Peterson, Karen (Mark) Petersen, Diane (Clifford) Twitchel, and Gina Roberts all of Burlington; numerous nieces and nephews and cousins; and aunts and uncles.
She was preceded in death by her mother, her grandparents, one nephew and one niece.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory.
The Celebration of Life for Debbie will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 14, 2018, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Pastor Clay Baker officiating. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home following the service.
In lieu of flowers memorials have been established for the Great River Hospice House and Des Moines County Humane Society.
