Anne Sorensen, 90, of Burlington, died at 2:11 PM Friday, July 1, 2016, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born May 9, 1926, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Walter E. and Anna Marie Krestin Gadau. On June 1, 1946, she married Kenneth Sorensen, with whom she had recently celebrated her 70 year anniversary with.
She graduated from Burlington High School where she was a homecoming attendant in 1944.
Her primary profession was being a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and providing a warm, welcoming home for all who visited her. Anne worked for Dr. McElwain's office as a receptionist. She also worked for the Burlington School District for 17 years as the Student Center Supervisor, where she affectionately earned the nicknames "Mom" and "Annie".
She was a member of SS John and Paul Catholic Church; she was also a member of Legion of Mary through St. John's and sang in the St. John's choir. She was a member of "Nutty" Knitters, Junior Women's Club, several bridge clubs, Burlington Golf Club, Office Lady's Bowling, and an original member of the Burlington High School faculty "Pit" Crew. She enjoyed sports, specifically the Chicago Cubs, Iowa Hawkeye's, and the Chicago Bears, watching and playing golf; she also enjoyed knitting and cooking.
Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Sorensen of Burlington; two daughters, Cheryl (Jim) Cushman of Omaha, NE, and Kathy (Dave) Ford of Burlington; two sons, Steve (Patti) Sorensen of Bettendorf and Dave Sorensen of Burlington; one brother, Richard (Debbie) Gadau of Burlington; seven grandchildren; Allison, Sarah, Jessica, Ryan, Erik, Keri, and Dawsen; and six great-grandchildren, Jayah, Jamison, Kate, Olivia, Keagan, Kellan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son in infancy, Kenneth Jr.; one daughter in infancy, Amy; and one brother, Walter "Giddy" Gadau.
Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends following a 5:00 PM Rosary Service until 7:00 PM Tuesday, July 5, 2016, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home & Crematory.
The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Mrs. Sorensen will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, July 6, 2016, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Rev. Father Marty Goetz as the Celebrant. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the cafeteria at St. John's Catholic Church following the burial.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for SS John and Paul Catholic Church and for St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry.
