Yvonne Annette Shelton-Sloan, 65, of Burlington, completed her earthly travels and departed from us on Saturday, May 20, 2017, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City.

Born June 7, 1951, in Rock Island, Illinois, she was the daughter of James Albert and Beulah Elizabeth Robinson Shelton. On May 27, 1989, she married Owen Thomas Sloan in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa.

Yvonne worked for John Deere Corp. before moving to Burlington.  In Burlington she worked at, Long John Silvers, Target, and the Burlington Basket Factory.  She spent 25 plus years at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant as a production worker and a Quality-Lean Team Leader.  She received several certificates for safety, Quality, and Lean Production while there.
She was of the Baptist faith and was a past member of the Second Baptist Church, Ft. Madison.  Yvonne loved being with family and friends.  She was a member of St. Elmo #3 Chapter of the Eastern Star.  She loved watching Price is Right, Jeopardy, cooking shows, and reality shows on TV.  But she really loved time with her dog, Bailey, who she spoiled rotten, and always carried a plastic bag in her purse when going out to eat, this bag was for leftovers for Bailey. Yvonne loved that Mississippi River catfish and that bony Buffalo, plus those (pig parts she would have to cook on the front or back porch to keep Owen happy). She wanted to have her thousand food recipes put on CD's but that is left to Owen to do so he can get rid of all those bags full of recipes.

Survivors include her husband; one son, Damien (Tonia) Washington of Nashville, TN; one daughter, Tiffany Shelton-Jackson of Ft. Wayne, IN; one sister, Betty Lou Shelton of Marietta, GA; two brothers, James "Jimmy" Shelton, and David Shelton; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Argolda (Goldie) Shelton, Shirley Shelton, and Gloria Shelton, three brothers, Leroy Shelton, Ronnie Shelton, and Floyd Shelton, and two uncles, David Robinson & Rev. Donald Robinson Sr.

Friends may call at Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home on Friday Noon until 5:00 PM. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM with the family to receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM Saturday, May 27, 2017 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.

The funeral service for Mrs. Sloan will be 11:00 AM Saturday, May 27, 2017, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Reverend Shane A. McCampbell officiating.  A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home following the service. Burial will be at a later date.
