Vida Janice Fickel, 95, of Burlington, died at 2:00 PM Tuesday, May 23, 2017, at Bickford Cottage in Burlington.

Born November 24, 1921, in Fort Madison, IA, she was the daughter of Gustav Joseph and Esther Martha Hasenclever Miller. On March 1, 1941, she married Ervin Leo Fickel at the Union Presbyterian Church in Ft. Madison. He died January 21, 2007.

Vida worked at Sheaffer Pen before she was married. She was a typist for the engineers while her husband was in the service.  She then worked in banks in Iowa City and Monroe, IA and worked for many years in jewelry stores in Atlantic and Ames, IA.

After her marriage she followed her husband in the Army to Washington, California, and Texas during WW II. Vi was a past member of the Lioness Club while living in Ames.  She attended Parkside First Baptist Church in Burlington.  She enjoyed music, playing the flute in concert and marching band, playing bridge, golf, bingo, and attending Bible studies.  

Survivors include one sister, Kathryn (Richard) Bell of Burlington; one nephew, Steven (Jeanne) Bell of Burlington; one great-nephew, Eric Bell of Wever one great-niece, Rachel (Jeff) Bott of Windsor, CO; one great-great-nephew, Harlan  Bell of Wever and several cousins.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.  

Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM with the family to receive friends from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM Friday, May 26, 2017 at Parkside First Baptist Church.

The funeral service for Mrs. Fickel will be 10:00 AM Friday, May 26, 2017, at Parkside First Baptist Church with Reverend Marshall Jackman officiating.  A time of food and fellowship will be held in Fellowship Hall following the service. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Ft. Madison following the luncheon.

A memorial has been established for Parkside First Baptist Church.
