Terry-lee Dock Hinesley, 74, of Burlington, died at home from heart failure at 9:33 PM February 17, 2017.

Born August 2, 1942, in Lincoln, Nebraska, Terry was the son of Homer Bernard and Esther Luft Hinesley. On November 7, 1964, he married Judy Kay Lippert at West Avenue Baptist Church in Burlington. He first saw her when she was singing in the Burlington Junior College Choir.

After graduating from Burlington High School in 1960, he graduated from Burlington Junior College in 1965 with an Associate of Electronics degree. He worked for Ross Manufacturing and General Electric.

Terry's music career began as a student of O.W. Appleton at App's Music Store, Burlington. He also attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. He was an accomplished composer and arranger and made a record with the Nu Tones as a teenager. He generously shared his talents participating in Southeast Iowa Symphony events, Burlington High School and Junior College programs, the Art Guild, services at First Congregational Church, where he was a member, the Snake Alley Art Fair, and played dinner music with his dear friends, Katie Hoth and Eric Schweizer as a member of the River Gypsies. He previously owned Hinesley Harmony House music store, and was an archery enthusiast. He has passed on his music talents to many of his students. Terry will be remembered as a jokester and for making up his own words.

Survivors include his wife, Judy of Burlington; one son, Tal (Laura) Hinesley of Middletown; three grandsons, Jacob and Troy of Middletown, and Tayler-lee of Mediapolis; one brother, Landis (Beth) Hinesley of Las Cruces, NM; and several nieces and nephews.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory.

The memorial service for Terry will be held at First Congregational Church, 313 North Fourth Street, Burlington at 11:00 AM Saturday, February 25, 2017. Pastor Jim Francisco will be officiating. There will be a luncheon held in the Fellowship Hall at the church following the memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Special Needs Foundation, Great River Hospice, or the Restore and Preserve Fund of the First Congregational Church.
