Opal P. Jones, 87, of Sperry, died at 12:30 PM Friday, January 3, 2020, at her home.
Born January 5, 1932, in Burlington, IA, she was the daughter of Clarence Guy and Zelma Rose Walker Van Etten. On June 15, 1951, she married Merle D. in Burlington, Iowa. He died June 22, 2009.
Opal worked for Champion Spark Plug as a machinist for 10 years and Midwest Biscuit for 8 years.
She enjoyed gambling at the casino, fishing, quilting, crocheting, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include one son, Kenneth D. (Joanne) Jones of Danville; one daughter, Rhonda L. (Larry) Warth of Sperry; four grandchildren, Shawn Jones of Chevak, AK, Tim (Na Kay) Warth of Sperry, Tina (Jeff) Linden of Sperry, Nathan (Jeanna) Jones of Danville; 16 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles C. (Betty) Van Etten of LaVista, NE, and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and great grandson, Ty Warth.
The Graveside Committal Service for Ms. Jones will be 11:00 AM Thursday, January 9, 2020, at Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home following the burial.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for Great River Hospice and the Mississippi Valley Veteran's Memorial.
