Janice Ann Perlstein, 74, of West Burlington, peacefully passed away at 3:15 PM Monday, September 2, 2019, at her home surrounded by family.
Born June 4, 1945, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Miles Willard and Edna Gertrude Waters Dick. On June 16, 1964, she married Steven Mark Perlstein in Burlington.
Janice worked at Southeastern Community College for ten years, MicroAge Computer Center for fourteen years and various secretarial positions at the beginning and prior to retirement.
She was a 1963 graduate of Burlington High School and attended Northeast Missouri State, currently Truman State University.
Janice spent her summers at her parents' cabin where she learned how to water ski and swim with her brothers. She was a "River Rat" and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends on Otter Island. She and her husband wintered in Florida for many years relaxing in the sun. Janice's best times were spent with family while on many vacations. Janice cherished the time with her grandchildren. She always held close to her heart the Circle of Friends with numerous firsts and adventures. Janice was a member of Temple Israel and a volunteer for Burlington Steamboat Days, RSVP-Public Transportation, and American Red Cross where she was also a board member. Janice was a Girl Scout leader for several years. She was nominated for the Mayor's Award for Volunteerism.
Survivors include her husband; three daughters: Dawn (Douglas) Snyder and Jacalyn (Michael) Swink both of Burlington and Kimberly Perlstein of Ames; three grandchildren: Jeremy and Zachary Swink and Addison Snyder; two brothers, Gary (Marcia) Dick of Burlington and Larry (Carolyn) Dick of Edwards, MO; one sister-in-law, Ellen (Robert) Bloom of Pompano Beach, FL; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Janice was preceded in death by her infant sister Debra.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory.
Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until noon with the family to receive friends Sunday, September 8, 2019 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.
The memorial service for Janice will be at noon Sunday, September 8, 2019, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home. A time of food and fellowship will be held at the Burlington Golf Club following the service. Inurnment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for Great River Hospice and Mayo Clinic-Pulmonary Medicine.
