Edward C. Breuer, 96, of Burlington, died at home with family at his bedside at 12:03 PM on Sunday, March 5, 2017.

Born October 8, 1920, in Union Township Des Moines County, he was the son of Clarence and Esther Viola Miller Breuer. On August 8, 1945, he married the love of his life Agnes Cecelia Wiemann in Burlington. She died May 12, 1987.

He was a 1938 graduate of Burlington High School and grew up in the Spring Grove area attending Spring Grove Methodist Church until marriage. He and the "love of his life", Agnes, spent their lives being great role models for their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren as well as good stewards of the land.

Edward worked his whole life as a farmer. He truly enjoyed farming and was engaged in dairying and received many awards in recognition for good dairy productivity.  Later, he converted his herd to beef. Edward served over several decades in leadership roles in the Agriculture Stabilization Conservation (ASC) Office, Dairy Herd Improvement Association, Southeast Iowa Breeders Association of Des Moines County, Farm Bureau of Des Moines County and the County Extension Office. He served several terms with the Des Moines County Fair Board and was instrumental in getting the fair to its current location. He was honored as Cattleman of the year in 2005, Friend of the Des Moines County Fair in 2007 and was inducted into the Iowa State 4-H Hall of Fame along with his wife in 2012.

Survivors include his nine daughters, Barbara King of Fond du Lac, WI, Colleen Breuer of Burlington, DeeDee Petersen of Ankeny, Patty (Tom) Huppenbauer of Burlington, Joan (John) Pilger of Burlington, Cindy (Kevin) Fleming of Plano, TX, Martha (Greg) Tiemeier of Peoria, IL, Ann (Terry) Good of Oneida, IL, and Debbie (Greg) Wischmeier of Dodgeville; two sons, Donald (Ericka) Breuer and Ronald (Anne) Breuer both of Burlington; 23 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Mildred Miller and Dorothy Gieselman.

Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Thursday, March 9, 2017 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.

The funeral service for Edward Breuer will be 10:00 AM Friday, March 10, 2017, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Very Rev. Father Marty Goetz officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
