Denny Maurice Cross, 81, of Danville, passed away at 9:20 AM Thursday, August 8, 2019, at his home.
Born May 14, 1938, in Burlington, he was the son of Norbert Randall and Ruby Lavina Frye Cross. On December 22, 1957, he married Phyllis Pauline Heinold in Danville. Phyllis passed away on December 30, 2014.
Denny was a man of many different talents. He worked as a farmer, manager at Exide, Quality and Safety Control at the Army Ammunition Plant, Private Investigator, mail carrier and worked on the railroad. He also was the former Street Commissioner of Danville and worked on the Zoning Board.
He was a graduate of Burlington High School and Burlington Business College, now known as SCC.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving from October 15, 1961 until October 5, 1962.
Denny enjoyed golfing, the outdoors, puzzles, showing off his magic tricks to his grandchildren and sweets. He loved watching racing and sports and was an avid Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan.
Survivors include one son, Randy (Amanda) Cross of Danville, two daughters, Jo Lynn (Kevin) Mehaffy of Danville and Tracey (Doug) Beckman of Burlington; nine grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; two brothers, Paul (Marsha) Cross of Mt. Pleasant and Jack (Joyce) Cross of Middletown, five sisters, Nancy Burkett of Burlington, Reva (Jim) Davis of Sperry, Becky (Steve) Cutts of Alabama, Lora Cross of California and Terri (Dick) Gordy of Danville; three sister-in-laws, Sue Cross, Rita Cross and Dianne Hurman and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his beloved wife, Denny was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers, Raymond, Milton, Wayne, Burton and Gail.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory.
The memorial service for Denny will be 5:00 PM Monday, August 12, 2019, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Pastor Dan Buck officiating. A time of gathering will be held in the community room at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home following the service. Burial will be in Edwards Cemetery at a later time.
