Roger D. Danes Sr.

February 10, 1937 ~ February 25, 2018 (age 81)

Roger  D. Danes Sr. also known as the Country Gentleman and in his younger days "Shorty", 81, of Burlington, died at 2:22 AM Sunday, February 25, 2018, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born February 10, 1937, in Spokane, WA, he was the son of Clifford and Esther Hutchinson Danes. On February 17, 1986, he married Dorothy "Kay" Bolander in Burlington, IA. 

He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran, serving for 21 years, and then a postal worker for thirteen years.

He was a member of the Heritage Baptist Church.  He enjoyed music, especially country, playing guitar, singing, playing harmonica, drums, the violin, and was #28 on the charts in 1977 at the Grand Ole Opry.  In 1980 he released a song entitled "Thank you for Bravery" for the hostages in Iran. He loved traveling in his motor home. While serving in the military he was in 47 countries and 48 states.  He loved animals, fishing, and carpentry. He was funny, and made the best of every situation.  He had a great sense of humor, loved riding horses, square dancing, became a golden glove boxer and he loved to ride around the country on his motorcycle with Kay in the sidecar.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy "Kay" Bolander; eight children, Sherry (Randy) Perry, Roger Danes Jr., Tammy (Buddy) Wigley, Pamela Patten, Brian (Tanya) Danes, Tracy (Roxanne) Danes, Michelle (John) Sexton, and Robert (Elizabeth) Danes; three step-children; Richard (Kerry) Bolander Sr., Robert (Marla) Bolander, Michelle Hartman; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Darlene Danes-Brown; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and one step-son.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory.

The memorial service for Mr. Danes will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, February 27, 2018, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.  Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard.  Burial will be in Carman Cemetery.  

A memorial has been established for the family of Roger Danes.
