John Richard “Dick” Huffman, 68, of Burlington, died at Great River Medical Center, West Burlington, Iowa, on Monday, February 21, 2011.

Born on August 4, 1942 in Burlington, Iowa, he was the son of John Harvey and Hazel Bennett Huffman. He married Melody Sue Busard on April 3, 1971 in Stronghurst, Illinois.

Dick graduated from Burlington High School. He served in the U.S. Navy. He was an over-the-road truck driver for many years. He enjoyed woodworking and small engines. He loved spending time with his family and caring for his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Melody; two daughters, Heather (Chris) Kipp of Burlington, Iowa and Tracie Huffman of Burlington, Iowa; three grandchildren, Trevor, Trenton, Kaitlyn, and a fourth grandchild on the way; two brothers, Dennis Huffman of Lomax, Illinois and David Huffman of Maitland, Florida; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Delores Norton.

Funeral services for John Richard “Dick” Huffman will be held on Monday, February 28, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at Prugh’s Chapel,Burlington, Iowa. Chaplain Randy Langner will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery, Burlington, Iowa.

Friends may call at Prugh’s on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. The family will receive friends and family on Sunday evening from 3:30 until 5:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for his grandchildren’s education.

I was so sorry to hear of Dick's passing. My prayers go out to you and your girls. Will always remember the old days. We all had a lot of good times together that I will never forget.

My sisters and I were saddened to hear of Dick's passing. I have great memories of visiting Uncle Johny's with my Dad and seeing Dick, Dennis, and David. Our best wishes and prayers are with you and the girls.

Dick and I rode motorcycles together on more than one occasion where we generally wound up at the Sombrero to tip a few. Remember the time he landed his dirt bide in the fork of a tree. Luck was with him and he did not end his life then. I cherish those times.
