Samuel Korb, 94, of Burlington died at 5:00 a.m. Saturday, April 3, 2010 at the Bickford Cottage in Burlington, Iowa.

Born September 24, 1915 in Burlington, Iowa, he was the son of Jacob H. and Rose E. Guttfruend Korb. On November 18, 1943, he married Rosemary D. Cummings in Edenton, North Carolina.

Samuel was a Naval Aviator in World War II serving as a Navy pilot operating a sea plane. He was a member of the American Legion and of St. Vincent de Paul Society. He was a Burlington athlete, playing basketball and baseball. He and Rosemary were mixed doubles city tennis champions. Sam owned and operated a TV tube business in Iowa, Illinois, and Missouri. Later he worked at the IAAP purchasing department, retiring as chairman from Southeast Iowa Regional Planning Commission in 1973. He was involved in many volunteer roles, including free income tax preparation. He was a great husband, father, and grandfather. He played the violin at family gatherings. Sam was very proud that all of his children were college graduates, 4 post-graduate, 3 graduate and 2 under-graduate degrees. He was also a member of SS. John & Paul Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Rosemary Korb of Burlington; six sons, Dr. James R. (Regina Pally) Korb of Santa Monica, California, John G. (Dale) Korb of Burlington, Stephen Korb of Davenport, Iowa, Timothy (Julie) Korb of Rockville, Maryland, David (Jeri) Korb of San Diego, California, Thomas (Patty) Korb of Potomac, Maryland; two daughters, Carol (Lawrence) Anderson of Morris, Illinois, Elizabeth “Betsy” (Lawrence) DeVilbiss of Davenport, Iowa; one daughter-in-law Marcia Korb of Burlington; 18 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Robert H. Korb, one son, Sam Korb, and one daughter, Christine Keehn.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Samuel Korb will be held on Friday, April 9, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church in Burlington. Father Patrick Hilgendorf will be the Celebrant. The Rosary will be recited in Prugh’s Chapel on Thursday evening at 6:30 p.m. following the family will receive friends until 8:00 p.m. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. Military rites will be conducted by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. Interment will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery

A memorial has been established for St. Vincent de Paul Society.

Tom ,sorry to hear about ur father.He and ur mother were very active thru out our school days.I'm sure he will b missed.Always seemed to have a smile on his face.
Hope everything is going well for u.
Not one to read the paper much,but came across the obits. when I got home tonight and read that the service had already taken place.Again my deepest sympathy to ur family,take care.
