Dr. William "Bill" R. Sperow, 83, of Burlington died at 10:30 p.m. on Monday, February 23, 2009, at his residence.

Bill was born on August 16, 1925, the son of Windel and Lola Rogers Sperow. He married Opel M. Miskell on July 6, 1947, in Nevada, Iowa. She died on January 7, 2005.

Bill was a Navy Aircorp carrier pilot in WW II. After serving his country he became an optometrist, practicing for 50 years.

He was a member of Kiwanis, Ducks Unlimited, the American Hunting Club and was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. He was best known to his friends as an avid and skilled hunter. Bill was affiliated with the Methodist faith.

He is survived by one daughter, Crystal Skeie of Moline, IL; one son, William D. Sperow of Burlington; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and one son.

Funeral services for Dr. William "Bill" R. Sperow will be held Friday, February 27, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. in Prugh's Chapel. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Rev. Dean Graber will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

A memorial has been established for the Kiwanis Education Fund.

Good by to a special friend! Thanks for your friendship. May the comfort of our Lord Jesus Christ be near your family in this time of your passing. I'm sorry I am out of town and cannot attend your memorial service nor give a tribute to you at Kiwanis.
