James Donald Hand, 75, of Morning Sun died at 12:05 a.m. on Saturday, September 27, 2008 at the Morning Sun Care Center.
He was born on August 23, 1933 in Burlington, Iowa to Raymond and Ruth Louise Wery Hand. He married Betty Marsh in 1964 in Burlington. They later divorced.
James was a construction carpenter and roofer for 41 years. He was a Shriner and enjoyed playing darts, pool, cards, watching Nascar and the Washington Redskins. James was a member of the First Congregational Church.
Survivors include his former wife, Betty Marsh of Burlington; two daughters, Sherry Lynn Rodrigues and Pattie Hand both of Oklahoma City, OK; two sons, Tim Alan Hand of Blair, NE, and Tony Wayne Hand of Oklahoma City, OK; two sisters, Karen Sue (Larry) Drain of Mediapolis, IA, and Joan Forcier of Cherokee, IA; one brother, Jerry Allen Trumbo of West Burlington, IA; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Graveside ash committal services for James Donald Hand will be held on Tuesday, September 30, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. at Aspen Grove Cemetery. Rev. Frank Beaty will officiate.
Friends may call at Prugh’s Chapel on Monday. There will not be a formal visitation.
A memorial has been established in his name.
