Thomas "Tom" Edward Daly, 87, of Burlington, died at 12:36 PM Tuesday, June 27, 2017, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born November 29, 1929, in Burlington, he was the son of Michael W. and Rose C. Roesch Daly. On November 20, 1954, he married Joyce Elaine Swisher in Burlington. She died March 9, 2010.
Tom worked 30 years as a machinist for Burlington Northern Railroad, retiring in 1993.
He was a 1947 graduate from Burlington High School.
Tom was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving during the Korean War from July 11, 1951 until June 10, 1953.
He was a member of SS John and Paul Catholic Parish. He liked antique cars, especially Fords, enjoyed traveling, and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include four daughters, Katy (Al) Nielsen of Burlington, Tina (Jorje) Rios of Burlington, Lisa (Jay) Begner of West Burlington, and Kari (Jason) Green of Middletown; 12 grandchildren, Cody, Kylie, Parker, Olivia, Emily, Clay, Landry, Bo, Boone, Noah, Morgan, and Ella; two great-grandsons, Levi and Amadeus; one brother, Jack Daly of Burlington; one sister, Martha Elmore of Burlington; and many nieces and nephews, .
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, Brogan, three sisters, Katy, Betty, and Margret and one brother Bill.
Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends following a 5:00 PM Rosary Service until 7:00 PM Friday, June 30, 2017, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.
The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Mr. Daly will be 9:30 AM Saturday, July 1, 2017, at Divine Mercy Parish-St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Very Rev. Father Marty Goetz as the Celebrant. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. A time of food and fellowship will be held at St. John's Cafeteria following the burial.
A memorial has been established for the Alzheimer's Association.
