Mariann C. Grothe, 84, of Burlington, died at 4:53 PM Thursday, August 31, 2017, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born December 8, 1932, in Burlington, IA, she was the daughter of Anthony W. Chubb and Marcella F. Boyle Chubb. On August 30, 1958, she married Mark Joseph Grothe in Washington, Iowa.
She worked for over 32 years as an administrative clerk for Northwestern Bell-US West-Qwest Telephone Co., retiring February 25, 1982.
She graduated in 1950 from Burlington High School.
She was a member of Divine Mercy Parish- SS. John & Paul Catholic Church. She was a member of the Catholic Women's Guild, Altar & Rosary , St. Agatha Circle, Telephone Pioneers and Epsilon Sigma Alpha. She was very dedicated to her faith and loved praying the rosary. Mariann loved to dance and smile, and she had great style and taste. Mariann liked to play the slots, play cards and enjoyed scrap booking. She was a loving, kind, caring mother and grandmother, who devoted her life to her family, and to her mother.
Survivors include husband, Mark Joseph Grothe of Burlington; four daughters, Annmarie (Kirk) Daily of Ottumwa, Lisa Jo (Mike) Walter of Burlington, Gina Kay (Michael Frost, fiance) Grothe of Des Moines, and Angela (Trevor) Wiemann of Burlington; five grandchildren, Brendan (Emma) Daily, Connor Daily, Audrey Walter, Cooper Wiemann, and Bailey Wiemann; one sister, Nancy (Joel) Miller of Milton, FL; several nieces and nephews; and many cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Mark and Raymond Chubb.
Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends following a 5:00 PM Rosary Service, September 5, 2017, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.
The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Mrs. Grothe will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, September 6, 2017, at St. Paul's Catholic Church with Very Rev. Father Marty Goetz as the Celebrant. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. A luncheon will be held in St. Paul's cafeteria following the Mass. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for St. Vincent de Paul and Great River Hospice.
