Leo T. Heland, 90, of Burlington, died at 12:37 AM Monday, January 29, 2018, at the Great River Klein Center in West Burlington.
Born June 1, 1927, in Lovilia, IA, he was the son of Henry Patrick and Mary Theresa Hollinrake Heland. On February 4, 1956, he married Jacqueline "Jacky" J. Musgrove in Ottumwa, Iowa. She passed on October 25, 2006.
He worked at John Morrell Meat Packing Plant in Ottumwa, and then later for the Burlington Northern Railroad.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving during the Korean War.
He was a member of Divine Mercy Parish and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed his exercise class and appreciated the wonderful care he received at Klein Center. He also enjoyed reading the Bible.
Survivors include his two sons, Jeff M. (Cindy) Heland and Tom M. (Donna) Heland both of Burlington; four granddaughters, Allison (Carl) Behne, Dusty (Phil) Embree, Kelli (Taylor) Fountain, and Erin (Joel) Hinebaugh; nine great-grandchildren, Samantha R. Behne, Nathan Behne, Rylea Elizabeth Hinebaugh, Griffin Embree, Klayton Fountain, Carter Fountain, Hadley Embree, Camden Embree and Lane Hinebaugh.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Mary Heland, and three sisters.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory.
Visitation will follow a 9:00 AM Rosary Service Friday, February 2, 2018, at Divine Mercy Parish-St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
The Memorial Mass of the Resurrection for Mr. Heland will be 10:00 AM Friday, February 2, 2018, at Divine Mercy Parish-St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Rev. Father Bill Roush as the Celebrant. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Weller, IA at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the Divine Mercy Parish and A.D.D.S. (Alcohol and Drug Dependency Services).
