John "Bo" Wasson Jr., 68, of Burlington, died at 6:32 PM Monday, June 5, 2017, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the Chemo Unit at the V.A. Hospital in Iowa City and the Great River Hospice House for the care and kindness they showed Bo.
Born December 26, 1948, in Burlington, he was the son of John Robert Sr. and Betsy Ross Turnbough Wasson.
Bo graduated form West Burlington Arnold High School.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving during the Vietnam War from January 17, 1969 until January 16, 1975.
Bo worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad for over 25 years.
He enjoyed building model railroads, cake decorating, various collections, black powder rifles, and shooting guns. He also enjoyed participating in the black powder rendezvous re-enactments and dressing up as Santa for local nursing homes and other organizations during the Christmas season.
Survivors include his two sisters, Noreen Wasson of Burlington, Lucretia "Lou" (Donald) Broeg of West Burlington; two brothers, Stephen (Sandy) Wasson of Burlington, Richard (Donna) Wasson of Frankfort, KY; three nieces, Amanda, Holly, Kaitlynn; four nephews, Andrew, Joshua, Jon, Brandon; three great-nephews, Tyler, JJ, Sam; five cousins, Linda (Ed) Bogle, Richard Jr. (Barb) Turnbough, Bob (Theresa) Turnbough, Laura (Stan) Gillespie, all of New Mexico and Di Evans of Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Nancy Wasson, and nephew, Jimmy Wasson.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory.
There will be a Celebration of Life at a later date.
