Mary Jane Harris, 91, of Burlington, died at 3:55 PM Saturday, January 21, 2017, at the Great River Klein Center.
Born May 7, 1925, in Fort Madison, she was the daughter of Eugene "Stanley" and Elizabeth M. Moeller Abolt. On November 24, 1945, she married Charles Henry Harris in Burlington, Iowa. He died on January 26, 2007.
Jane worked in food service for many years with the Burlington School System at many locations.
She was a member of SS John & Paul Catholic Church. She enjoyed researching genealogy, cooking, reading, gardening, and raising potted flowers. She enjoyed the houseboat out on the Mississippi river, taking trips out to the east coast to visit relatives, and spending time with her family.
Survivors include one daughter, Carol (Tony) Orth of Burlington; four sons, Harold (Kathleen) Harris of Glastonbury, CT, David C. Harris of Burlington, John Harris of Burlington, Tom (Michelle) Harris of Windsor, CT; seven grandchildren, Laura (Stan) Koleszar, Michelle (John) Ols, Brian (Corrin) Harris, Tasha (Jared) Prickett, Aaron (Ashley) Orth, Elizabeth (Bradley) Junker, Quincy Harris; thirteen great-grandchildren; three sisters, Charlotte Mettenberg of Ft. Madison, Doris Boeding, and Helen (Dave) Hoenig both of West Point; two brothers, Jerry (Janet) Abolt of St. Paul, Stanley Don (Mary) Abolt of Ft. Madison; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and one sister.
Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends following a 5:00 PM Rosary Service until 7:00 PM Friday, January 27, 2017, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.
The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Mrs. Harris will be 10:00 AM Saturday, January 28, 2017, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Very Rev. Father Marty Goetz as the Celebrant. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the St. John's cafeteria following the burial.
Memorials have been established for SS John & Paul Catholic Church, Great River Hospice, and Great River Klein Center.
