Frances Cecelia Smyth, 101, of New London, died at 7:15 PM Monday, June 5, 2017, at the New London Nursing and Rehab.
Born November 1, 1915, in Burlington, she was the daughter of John B. and Flora Knox Maddox. On October 5, 1938, she married Horace F. Smyth in Burlington. He died June 27, 1989.
She was a homemaker.
She attended St. Patrick's Catholic School.
She was a member of SS. Mary and Patrick Catholic Church. She enjoyed listening to lively jazz style music and dancing. At the age of 93, she went for her first motorcycle ride and loved it. She enjoyed reading National Geographic and Zane Grey western books, watching Western movies and M.A.S.H. She especially enjoyed her trip to Israel to see the Holy Land, and loved to spend her winters down in Texas with her husband.
Survivors include two sons, Daniel Smyth of Burlington, & Stephen (Linda) Smyth of New London; one daughter, Joyce Rauscher of Lockridge; one daughter-in-law, Agnes Smyth of Niles, IL; 15 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, John & Paul Smyth, two brothers, Allen & John, two sisters, Mary & Ada, and one granddaughter, Susan Starr.
Visitation will be from 8:00 AM until 1:00 PM with the family to receive friends from noon until 1:00 PM Thursday, June 8, 2017, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.
The funeral service for Mrs. Smyth will be 1:00 PM Thursday, June 8, 2017, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Deacon Bob Glaser as the officiant. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held at St. Mary's Parish Center following the burial.
Memorials have been established for Great River Hospice and New London Care Center.
