Darlene Anna Broeker, 87, of West Burlington, died on Monday, January 23, 2017, at the Great River Medical Center.
Born March 30, 1929, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Orville Schloss and Anna Marie Zart Richardson. On June 6, 1947, she married the love of her life Dale M. Broeker. He died on August 11, 1983.
Darlene worked as a radiologist tech for the Burlington Medical Center and Great River Medical Center.
She was a member of the West Burlington Christian Church. She gave so much of her heart to her church, community and charities. She was a warrior for our Lord and Savior, and witnessed clear through her last days until He took her home. Grandma Bb (nickname) had a goal to walk again and go shopping. We are sure she is walking today.
Dale & Darlene's life was blessed with the birth of their twin daughters, Lana (Bill) Sherwood of West Burlington, and Linda (Fred) Wingstrom of Fort Morgan, CO; four grandchildren, Jeffery (Nicole) Sherwood of Littleton, CO, Jim (Alicia) Sherwood of West Burlington, Alicia (Rod) Rider of Farmington, IA, and Thomas (Marilyn) Shelledy Jr. of Douglas, WY; seven great-grandchildren, Isabelle, Colton, Merissa, Aashka, Zack, Matt, and Kali; one brother, Dave (Charlotte) Richardson of Blanchester, OH; and many nieces & nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, step-father, Martin Zachmeyer, and one brother, Orville.
Following Darlene's wishes she has deeded her body to the University of Iowa in hopes that the living can benefit from the knowledge through the gift of her body. No visitation or services are planned.
In lieu of flowers and donations, "Remember her in your sweet memories and carry on her example of witnessing to others."
